When visiting one of these websites, a user's IP address would be in the hands of these scammers. If the user filled in their Roblox credentials, the scammer would get access to the user's account, thus leading to the user's account getting hijacked. This also encouraged scammers to create and advertise "free" gift card websites, which were obviously fake. When the promotion was listed as an event, it caused many in the community to criticize the event due to its promotional nature than a traditional event.
The promotion then came back the same day on January 30, 2020, but was changed so that it can now be accessible at all times on the left sidebar above the Premium membership tab, which previously before January 30, 2020, was originally under the "Events" section instead. It returned on November 25, 2019, for the Christmas 2019 season, and ended on January 30, 2020. In 2018, it started on December 14, 2018, and ended on April 25, 2019.
